Ditch the soggy sandwich and online shopping at your desk and get out and active on your lunch break.
Now more than ever, we are sitting for longer, whether it’s on the train on the way to work, at our desks all day or even during our lunch breaks. Combining fitness and lunch is one of the best ways to incorporate exercise into our busy lifestyles.
Thinking it’s not possible to fit in a work out in your lunch break? It’s easier than you think. With a little bit of planning, you can fit in a quick work out and feel better for it. So, pack a gym bag, BYO lunch or grab a quick and easy sandwich to go and get out there.
Why not try a little friendly competition? Active Melbourne City Sports is a City of Melbourne exercise and sports program for inner city residents and workers during their lunch breaks. It’s all about providing opportunities for Melburnians to live a more active and healthy life.
Activities include running groups, basketball, netball, bare-foot bowls, soccer and dodgeball. Competitions are held at lunchtime from 12pm to 2pm weekdays, at handy locations at Docklands and Flagstaff Gardens.
Don’t forget that lunch break workouts don’t have to take place just at the gym or through organised sport. Put the pedal to the pavement and grab one of the Melbourne bike share blue bikes, or ditch the city trams and try walking instead to and from restaurants or meetings. It all counts and it’s an easy way to stay active and fit.
It’s not about fitting it in after work, it’s about getting moving during your day. So get out there and make the most of your lunch break.
