There’s plenty to celebrate in Melbourne this summer. Chase the sun through our parks and gardens, catch the breeze at the waterfront, enjoy a meal in the open air or wander the summer markets. Melbourne is made for summer and here are some ways you can make the most of it.
Wander the markets
The finest pantry essentials, including ethically produced meat, dairy goods, olive oils, bread and fresh fruit and vegetables are the highlight of The Carlton Farmers’ Market, located at Carlton Primary School on the first Saturday of each month.
After something quirky? Check out Blender Lane Artists Market on Wednesday nights. You’re in for performing arts, live music and the opportunity to view artists’ studios. Also on Wednesday nights, the Queen Victoria Summer Night Market puts on an international smorgasbord of food, drink and entertainment.

Long days and balmy nights means summery cocktails on rooftop bars, alfresco dining under the stars and sunny lunches in laneways. Dine by the Yarra at The Arbory, enjoy the warmth at Campari’s rooftop or chill out in Henry and the Fox’s beer garden.

Play by the waterfront
With stunning river views, Melbourne’s waterfront is your go-to destination this summer. For the active types, summer is the perfect time to kayak down the Yarra or hire a boat, or you could throw jazz music into the mix and take a cruise.
For a bit of downtime, the Library at The Dock will read you and your wee ones a story every Friday in February. Plenty of options for a bite to eat afterwards and a children’s playground just around the corner.

Enjoy summer events
Whatever you’re in the mood for, there’s something happening in the city just for you. Live music at Sunset Series, The Midsumma Festival, and the Japanese Summer Festival are just a taste of what’s in store.
That’s not all! Take a look at the other summertime events happening in the city.
The MPavilion in the Queen Victoria Gardens will feature an immersive sound and light experience at nightfall every evening. The Sunset Ritual is a collaboration between architect Amanda Levete, lighting designer Ben Cobram and musician Matthias Schack-Arnott from Speak Percussion. Your sensory system won’t know what hit it.
Stay tuned for further details on our summer blog and most of all, enjoy our brightest (and longest) days of the year.
