Far from being fashionably late, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival arrives right in time to refresh our autumn/winter wardrobe. Whatever your budget, there are festival experiences that promise inspiration and very fashionable fun.
The Edges and In Between
An exhibition embracing art, fashion and textiles, The Edges and In Between explores the ways that contemporary creativity thrives between boundaries. Co-curated by RMIT students and recent graduates, it features works by 15 young artists and designers.
The Plaza, outside the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum, is fashion ground zero during the festival’s peak week on 5-10 March. Expect a party atmosphere each evening, with live entertainment, runway shows and pop-up bars. Shop if you want, but essentially it’s a free experience, from personalised photo ops to a showcase of local emerging labels.
Priceline Pharmacy Beauty Bar
Discover tomorrow’s beauty products, looks and techniques at the pop-up Priceline Pharmacy Beauty Bar. Experts will create the latest runway trends, and offer complimentary beauty tips and touch-ups. You’ll never be more Instagram-ready!
Nobody Denim Laundry Tour
For the first time since it was established nearly 20 years ago, Nobody Denim is revealing where the handmade, customised magic happens. Hosted by founder John Condilis and wash developer Sara Fletcher, the Nobody Denim Laundry Tour is free but make sure you register.
Asahi Festival Bar
All the fashionable fun at The Plaza can be thirsty work. The pop-up Asahi Festival Bar offers refreshment with a touch of Japanese elegance, gorgeous greenery and lounges for resting your well-heeled feet. Kanpai!
Windsor’s on-trend Japanese restaurant pops up at The Plaza for six nights of heavenly bites. Mr Miyagi is offering bento boxes to go, and four-course mini-degustations, hand-delivered and described by the chefs. There are only five of these 30-minute little feasts each night, so get your ticket now!
So much fashion, so little time! Fortunately, the festival has partnered with some of Melbourne’s best bars and restaurants to pave the way for a perfect night out. EAT.DRINK.FASHION is a curated program that aligns festival events with hot spots like Supernormal and Gin Palace. Each recommended destination has exclusive MFF offerings for your pre- or post-event pleasure.
