Far from being fashionably late, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival arrives right in time to refresh our autumn/winter wardrobe. Whatever your budget, there are festival experiences that promise inspiration and very fashionable fun.

The Edges and In Between

An exhibition embracing art, fashion and textiles, The Edges and In Between explores the ways that contemporary creativity thrives between boundaries. Co-curated by RMIT students and recent graduates, it features works by 15 young artists and designers.

The Plaza

The Plaza, outside the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum, is fashion ground zero during the festival’s peak week on 5-10 March. Expect a party atmosphere each evening, with live entertainment, runway shows and pop-up bars. Shop if you want, but essentially it’s a free experience, from personalised photo ops to a showcase of local emerging labels.

For the first time since it was established nearly 20 years ago, Nobody Denim is revealing where the handmade, customised magic happens. Hosted by founder John Condilis and wash developer Sara Fletcher, the Nobody Denim Laundry Tour is free but make sure you register.

Mr Miyagi

Windsor’s on-trend Japanese restaurant pops up at The Plaza for six nights of heavenly bites. Mr Miyagi is offering bento boxes to go, and four-course mini-degustations, hand-delivered and described by the chefs.
