In this epic concert that's not to be missed, Andrew Wailes conducts over 300 passionate orchestral and vocal musicians featuring the combined forces of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, the National Boys Choir of Australia, Melbourne University Choral Society and three of Australia's finest soloists Kathryn Radcliffe (soprano), Kanen Breen (tenor) and Christopher Hillier (baritone).
Carmina Burana is perhaps the most famous choral work of the 20th century. The best-known movement is the dramatic O Fortuna (Oh Fortune), and its forceful and famous opening bars are among the grandest and most dramatic statements in all Western symphonic music.
This concert also features a rare performance of the epic Choral Symphony (No 6) by Carl Vine – one of Australia’s most widely acclaimed composers. Vine’s dark and dramatic Choral Symphony tells the story of Creation using the myths of ancient Babylonia.
