Melburnians love a pop-up. If it’s new and unique, count us in! So we’ve rounded up the hottest pop-up bars and eateries for you to visit this Summer.
Arbory Afloat’s Mediterranean-inspired alfresco haven is perfect for enjoying the sunshine. The buoyant bar’s food has class (think local calamari and ‘Torta Della Nonna’ – Italian custard pie), while their drinks chase the sun, from Prosecco to watermelon sangria. Watch all the Australian Open action on the big screen, order few plates to share and laze about until sunset and beyond. Until 30 April.
Riverside garden pop-up
The Common Man lawn has been transformed into the Riverside Garden pop-up bar, complete with a white picket fence, astro turf, container bars and BBQ specials. Sip on kahlua espresso martinis, summery cocktail jugs, Squealing Pig rosé or pick from an extensive wine menu while you gaze at the sunlit summer skyline. Until 31 March.
Stomping Ground La Boca
Mega musical Evita will get everyone crying for Argentina at Arts Centre Melbourne this summer. But out in the forecourt there’s a hot Buenos Aires party vibe at the Stomping Ground La Boca pop-up beer garden. Live la vida loca, with tango lessons, Argentinian food courtesy of Asado Bar y Grill and an event-exclusive Argentine-inspired lager.
NGV Friday Nights
Not letting Madame B hog all the fun, the NGV will also be hosting a refreshing Bombay pop up bar over summer. Every Friday night from 6pm head along to NGV Friday Nights to explore the Escher x nendo | Between Two Worlds exhibition, then get out to the garden for a gin or two. Stay a while and soak up the live DJ tunes, excellent dining options and stunning surrounds of their new architectural commission. Friday nights until 6 April 2019.
Adelphi Rooftop Gin Sessions
Gaze across Flinders Lane from the rooftop at Adelphi’s poolside pop up gin bar. On Thursday and Friday evenings from 19 January, relax to the sounds of the city with Four Pillars Gin cocktails, music and snacks from Adelphi’s signature restaurant, Om Nom.
Summer Pop-Up at Harry’s Bar
Rosé and cider come together at last at Harry’s Bar this summer. Popping up on Little Collins street, Yak Ales are providing an enviable drinks list at Harry’s – including Lumber Yak Mountain Cider and Strongbow Blossom Rosé Cider. There’s also live music on selected dates, a range of signature cocktails and a delicious bar menu to dig into. Until 28 February.
Melbourne Gin Company Summer G&T bar
Patricia Coffee Brewers is transforming into the Melbourne Gin Company Summer G&T bar every Friday until 22 February. This breezy bar is dedicated to gin and tonic, and inspired by the Italian aperitivo concept. Four gin and tonics are on the menu, which rotates fortnightly. Try the ‘Patricia G&T’, made with cold-brew coffee, which will feature on the menu all summer.
Summer Vibes at HWKR
The A’Beckett Street foodie hot spot that is HWKR is welcoming a bevvy of new eateries for the summer season. There are big fat burgers from Kung Fu, mountainous ice cream desserts from Scoopy, fresh Japanese style seafood from the Modern Eatery and much much more. Head along to their newly decked out summer-style haunt and enjoy a drink or two from their house bar Manymore. Until 28 February.
Pimms Pop-Up at Federation Square
After a hugely successful run at the Night Noodle Market, Pimms Pop-up has opened its doors at Federation Square just in time for the Australian Open. Cool down over a thirst quenching Pimm’s and a luxurious serve strawberries and cream, as you catch the tennis action live and loud on the big screen.
Yarra Beach Bar at the Wharf Hotel
There’s no need to spend two hours in the car for a seaside escape – the Wharf Hotel’s pop up beach bar is bringing sand, sun and summer vibes to the the city. On until 29 January, head down to this riverside oasis and relax in your very own beach box, share a cocktail jug and finish off with an ice cream.
Melbourne Street Eatz
Food trucks, tennis on the big screen, eating competitions and more – plus it’s dog friendly! The Melbourne Street Eatz pop up food truck park is taking over the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 14 to 28 January. With the likes of Squealing Pig, ‘It’s Bomb’ Waffles and loaded gourmet hot dogs frequenting their regular events, it’s sure to be a foodie lovers paradise.
