This Saturday, anywhere that is not showing the Grand Final is pretty much yours for the taking. The crowds have disappeared and you can do cartwheels down Bourke Street Mall if you want to.
So instead of hiding out in your living room and avoiding all signs of Grand Final day, think of it as your opportunity to get to know Melbourne better.
Take your pick of Melbourne restaurants
Hate queuing? Visit one of the many restaurants with a ‘no booking policy’ that are normally impossible to get in to, like Chin Chin, Touche Hombre, Coda, Longrain or Mamak.
Get the kids to some usually crowded locations
The Dreamworks Animation Exhibition at ACMI has been extended due to popular demand. Spend a couple of hours getting up-close to the exhibits and reliving your childhood.
Stare for hours at the cheeky meerkats, laze like a lion and enjoy some (semi) alone time at the Melbourne Zoo. Or hit some usually-busy spots like Melbourne Aquarium, Melbourne Star or the ArtPlay playground.
Get some culture
Head to NGV International for some amazing exhibitions, including Bushido, an exploration of the world of the samurai, and Nostalgia for Obsolete Futures. IT HAS DANCING ROBOTS (and no, caps lock wasn’t stuck, we are shouting).
If you’re visiting The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, we recommend using the Russell Street entrance as Federation Square is definitely to be avoided.
Shop ’til you drop
Get a head-start on your Christmas shopping at Emporium, or try on every outfit at Melbourne Central. Other shopping destinations include QV, Harbour Town, Spencer Outlet Centre, The Strand and H&M.
How do you intend to avoid the footy fever this Saturday?
