Take in a cosy night out at an intimate jazz club this winter. From tributes to Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra to world-class contemporary artists – there’s a show for all tastes almost every night of the week.
Paris Cat Jazz Club
The luxurious yet rustic fit-out of this three-storey, 1895 warehouse epitomises post-war Parisian chic. The Paris Cat Jazz Club presents a mix of bebop, gypsy swing, soul, blues, funk and more, welcoming lovers of all music genres. Even Robbie Williams and his big band have graced the intimate stage.
Treat a special someone to an evening of fine dining and world-class music at Bird’s Basement, sister club to New York’s famed Birdland. The 200-seat venue offers dinner shows featuring top local and international talent like James Morrison, Kurt Elling and Renee Geyer. Even Molly Ringwald – 80s teen icon turned songstress – has appeared at Bird’s.
Sample Spanish and Latin American-inspired food (with a Melbourne twist), and drinks from Buenos Aires to Barcelona at Vamos. Take your pick from the vibrant program of live music, which includes Gypsy tango, jazz, samba and flamenco, or drop by mid-week to treat yourself to tapas and bottomless sangria.
Gather some friends for a night of vintage vibes at Speakeasy HQ. The vaudeville-style program features up to 15 artists per night, from jazz acts to stand-up comedy, dance and burlesque. Keep an eye out for tributes to jazz divas like Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. Or head along to one of the dozens of performances they have on every month.
Transit Rooftop Bar
Head to Transit Rooftop Bar to enjoy music from jazz to reggae from acts like The Pearly Shells and The Moonhops. While you’re there, enjoy sweeping views of the city and Yarra River from the heated outdoor terraces, contemporary cocktails and great food from Taxi Kitchen. It’s the perfect spot to start or finish a winter’s night out in Melbourne, or spend a Sunday session.
