Melbourne bars that have reopened

Some restrictions have eased in Melbourne, and these bars are open once again for limited numbers of patrons. Before making plans, be sure to check in with the DHHS for the most up to date guidelines.

GoGo Bar

Down a cobbled alley off Flinders Lane, look for the bright red neon GoGo sign. An arrow will direct you down to this busy basement bar nestled underneath the ever popular Chin Chin. The perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink, both now open again for bookings!

Dessous, that moody drinking den under Hazel on Flinders Lane, is back. Disappear underground and enjoy some killer cocktails along with a glamorous set menu. It’s currently open Wednesday to Saturday evenings. Bookings are essential due to capacity.

Eau de Vie

Do you miss sneaking down Malthouse Lane and into the 1920s prohibition-era vibe of Eau de Vie? This hidden icon is currently taking bookings for Friday and Saturday evenings for up to 20 guests. Then, as of June 22, you can book Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well.

Waterslide Bar

Get back to lounging around at Waterslide Bar and its glorious Southbank views. It’ll be operating as a restaurant-style bar, with food from La Camera next door. They are currently catering for 20 people inside and 14 outside, with a maximum of six people per group. You’ll have to have a main meal with your drinks, with bookings capped at 90 minutes.

Waterslide Bar

Bar Lourinha

Spanish stalwart Bar Lourinha is now taking dinner bookings from Wednesday to Saturday. There’s a limit of 20 patrons at any given time. There are two dinner sessions available so book in quick for a taste of Spain. Oh, and card only please!

Bodega Underground

If you’ve been missing your tacos and tequila, it’s okay: Bodega Underground is open again. Bodega does a great line in vegan Mexican dishes and a massive range of mezcals. They’re taking bookings so secure your seat and settle in for a good time.

Boilermaker House

Boilermaker House specialises in malt whisky, craft beer and cocktails. Order some delicious eats to complement your expertly chosen tipple. You can currently book for Friday and Saturday nights for groups of six to 20 guests.

Arbory Bar and Eatery

Arbory, that Instagrammable bar lounging between Flinders Street Station and the Yarra, is ready to welcome you back. It’s open every day from midday to 10pm, with all appropriate safety measures in place. Book a table, order a signature Espresso Martini and tuck into a lush meal.


Embla, that award-winning little haven on Russell Street, has reopened. Expect a bit more space between you and your fellow diners as you order a second glass of wine and dip into delicious whipped anchovy snacks. Bookings are highly recommended.


If you need to shake off the lockdown blues, there’s no better cure than a tiki cocktail at LuWow. You do have to have something to eat with your drink, but who could resist a Tiki Taco with a Mai Tai anyway? Capacity is restricted so it’s still a savvy idea to make a booking.

White Rabbit Record Bar

White Rabbit will bring the noise, funk and other associated sounds back to their ‘hood from 3 June. Have a coffee, sip a cocktail and don some disposable gloves to flick through their endless range of vinyl.

Fed Square’s famous Transport is back, every day from midday. Capacity is reduced for safety so book a seat, but you might luck out with a walk-in. Enjoy an extensive range of tap beers and a classic Australian menu.

Common Man

Who doesn’t love hanging out on the lawn with an imported beer at The Common Man? This relaxing, riverside venue is taking dine-in bookings now, from Wednesday to Sunday. Spaces are limited so book a table and soak up the views.


Cargo in Docklands is open again, with reduced capacity. Make sure you book a seat at this breezy, all-day diner for pizza, wine and water views.

Plus 5

Right next door to Cargo, Plus 5 is also swinging back into action. Get ready for the signature good vibes, with tapas, cocktails and music. They are currently open Friday to Sunday, from midday until late. There are four different enclosed spaces, including a terrace, so get booking! Minimum spends will apply.

Little Andorra

North Carlton’s wine and vinyl temple, Little Andorra, has reopened in delicious fashion. There are two sittings a night at 6pm and 8pm for the $60 ‘feed me’ menu. Nab a spot and celebrate dining out again.
