Sitting in a hairdresser’s chair for what may seem like half a day can be tiresome. So, here comes a new breed of salon where you can enjoy more than a cup of tea and your reflection in the mirror. Get started with these five.
Captains of Industry
Self-coined ‘gentleman’s outfitter and cafe’, Captains of Industry is for the modern man who isn’t ashamed to put effort into his appearance. Visit Captains of Industry and you’ll walk out the most dapper version of yourself. There’s a barber shop offering haircuts, razor shaves and grooming products, as well as a shoemaker, jewellery store and cafe.
Kenny and the Sunshine girls
With a feminine vintage glamour vibe, Kenny and the Sunshine Girls stays on the right side of kitsch and features standard hair salon services as well as make-up and nail art (and a glass of champagne to top it off). Free from shiny floors and stark lighting, Kenny and the Sunshine girls is a homely, comfortably feminine experience (although men are catered for, too!)
Offering the services of a bygone era, Men+Co is hosted inside two city locations: within the gentlemanly Kelvin Club and Ms Collins. Services include shoeshines, shaves, haircuts and even styling tips from the small team of barbers and stylists. To complete the picture, a complimentary glass of whisky is offered with all style cuts.
Edwards & Co.
The beautiful light-drenched, converted warehouse space on Punch Lane houses a selection of savvy freelance hair and beauty specialists who each bring something different to the Edwards & Co. offering. Hair, nails and beauty services are all covered and you can enjoy your blow dry, facial treatment or manicure against a backdrop of awesome tunes. A glass of something nice and a wall mural make a welcome change from the standard salon experience.
There is a sense of intrigue and glamour that surrounds Miss Fox (as the name hints.) Known as an urban day spa and beauty salon, there is also a clinic offering facials, peels, laser hair removal and detox services. But the beauty is in the detail – here they want to make you feel good, not just look good. The onsite champagne and cocktail bar is just the icing on the cake.
