Family friendly shopping stops this Christmas

Pack your Christmas list and grab a hat, sunscreen, an umbrella, and a coat (it is Melbourne after all), and tick off your shopping to-dos whilst also giving the kids a truly magical Melbourne Christmas experience this year.

With lots of decorations and unique shopping spots on offer in the city, you can get through some of those Christmas chores with a smile on your face. Here are some great pit stops for you to refuel and regain composure whilst shopping with the kids.

Stops near Degraves Street

It may be a little early when you arrive at Degraves Street with your brood, but Little Cup Cakes is the perfect pit stop for a sweet treat for the kids, and a coffee for the parents. They even do takeaway if you want to have a special something  available in case of a serious shopping aisle meltdown.

Whilst at Degraves you can start ticking things off that shopping list with a visit to Clementine’s for Victorian-made items, or Signed and Numbered for limited edition prints. Explore the great underground options at Campbell Arcade, whilst checking out other food options nearby – including Doughnut Time and The Organic Food and Wine Deli for gluten free, sugar free and a range of organic treats.

Stops near Christmas Square

After enjoying some well-deserved respite at Christmas Square and posting your letters at Santa’s Post Box, little and big bellies alike are probably getting a bit grumbly. Luckily, just across the road in Manchester Lane you’ll discover Italian fare just like Nonna used to make at Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana.

If your kids have a slightly more adventurous palate, head towards Bourke Street Mall via Causeway Arcade and you’ll discover Thaiger‘s burgers, along with great homemade fare at Local Birds and super sushi at Sushi Monger.

Queen Victoria Market

Whether you’re picking up Christmas seafood, buying decorations at Ambiance or saying G’day to Santa, Queen Victoria Market offers many delightful pit stops. For food that suits your mini people, you can visit Bite Sized Mini Food off Peel Street, and wash it down with an authentic Chai from Original Chai Co (on weekends only).

North Melbourne

If you’ve headed north for that local village shopping feel, visit Pocket Cafe for bagels, sweet treats, soups and more. Try Mörk Chocolate for authentic (and delicious) hot chocolate, or treat yourself to a specialty coffee at Twenty and Six Espresso whilst indulging in its relaxed atmosphere of communal tables, and introducing the kids to the quintessential Melbourne experience of milk crate seating.

Other great places across the City

Time getting away from you? Visit Le Petite Creperie across from Melbourne Town Hall or Cylinder for food you can easily consume on the run, heading to your next shopping destination.
