Eight ways to drink Aperol Spritz in Melbourne

Like a bottle of Italian sunshine with a zingy citrus kick, Aperol is this summer’s essential ingredient. Here’s where to get better acquainted.

By the pool
Beat the heat by hanging poolside all summer long. The Adelphi Hotel is once again hosting rooftop Weekend Summer Sessions. With Aperol Spritz just $8 during happy hour, it would be rude not to. Open until March 1.

With a view
Looking for a sky-high drinking spot to enjoy your spritz? Good Heavens rooftop bar might be the perfect spot for you. Drop by between midday and 4pm on Sundays, when they’re only $10. Expand your spritz horizons, because this Sunday special applies to all five on the menu.

By the river
Nestled under the trees with a cool breeze straight off the Yarra River, you’ll find Riverland Bar. Spend a summer session watching the Australian Open at their zesty Club Aperol pop-up. Featuring $12 spritzes, frozen Aperol, a menu by D.O.C and those gorgeous riverside views. $1 from every spritz sold in January will be donated to the Red Cross bushfire disaster appeal, and will also enter you into the draw to win AO ground passed. Win win!

On the balcony
Get in early if you want to go alfresco on the little balcony at Magic Mountain Saloon. Don’t sweat it though, because that Aperol Spritz is going to be just as good indoors or out. Team this taste of the Amalfi Coast with the flavours of Bangkok: playful Thai’s on the menu at this neon-lit bar.

On the water
Arbory Afloat is turning on some riverside magic this summer. At this Miami and Cuban-inspired alfresco haven you can find seven kinds of spritz – including one on tap. Order some lobster tacos, pizza or ice cream, and let the day float by.

By the garden
The Botanical, a longtime Melbourne favourite, is all class, so don’t think twice about ordering a second glass of chilled Italian sunshine. Make time for a stroll in the Royal Botanic Gardens across the road afterwards.

Italian style
A byword for relaxing Italian-style, Brunetti in Flinders Lane is complete with the Campari Bar. Aperol is the co-star on the drinks list, which includes several takes on the spritz. Boasting a snack menu straight out of Florence, it’s great for a nibble and a sip or two. As if you needed another excuse to check out Brunetti City?

Please drink responsibly.
