Carlton’s Lygon Street is famous for its cafes and restaurants and there’s plenty on offer specifically for the Christmas sweet-tooth. Starting at Brunetti, let’s take a sugar-frosted walk down one of Melbourne’s most iconic streets.
Brunetti is a Carlton institution. Through its recent refurbishment and expansion into Lygon Court, one thing hasn’t changed: the buzzy, frenetic atmosphere. Christmas-wise, there are plenty of sweet things on offer, including macarons, panettone, and a huge range of cakes and gelato.
Just up the street, King & Godfree is bursting at the seams with European Christmas delicacies. Advent calendars sold out in November but, as you can see from these pictures, there are plenty of other treats to choose from, including Flamigni Italian nougat and chocolate!
Wander towards the city a little further and you’ll come across Lygon Food Store. While the hanging meats and delicious deli offerings are enticing enough, there are plenty of sweet things too. We particularly loved these souvenir ceramic pots filled with nougat.
Of course, if you’re a serious sweet-tooth, you can’t go past the huge array of lollies at The Original Lolly Store. Chocoholics, meanwhile, can make a bee-line for Koko Black. And get ready to be spoilt for choice if you love gelato: Il Dolce Freddo, Casa Del Gelato, Gelatissimo Carlton and Brunetti all sell the stuff on Lygon Street.
And for a French take on Christmas goodies you can’t go past La Parisienne Pates, stocked with macaroons, quirky French treats and more.
There are plenty more places to discover on Lygon Street – let us know your favourite. And don’t forget to brush your teeth!
