Got a Movember cookie duster you need tidied up (or away), or perhaps you’re after a dashing ‘do in time for the Christmas party season?
Here’s our round-up of trusty old-school barbers and new-school salons to get you clipped, chopped and back on the street in the time it takes to down a flat white.
All the Kings Men Gentlemens Haircutters
The friendly chaps at All the Kings Men in North Melbourne know the experience is part of the haircut, and they’ve worked hard to make sure you’ll feel goovy about grooming while they whip you into shape. Haircuts are $30, buzz cuts $17, and they’re open late Thursdays and Fridays if you need a fresh look in time for the weekend. Your hair follicles will thank you for it.
Barber on Degraves
The Barber on Degraves works with a busy bloke’s schedule in mind – opening from 7am Monday to Friday so you can duck in for a quick buzz cut or beard beautification before watercooler catch-ups. Students, seniors and returned servicemen all get decent discounts, and once you’re done, we recommend the to-die-for french baguettes from Waffle On next door (just don’t get brie on your freshly-groomed face).
Rockit Barber Shop
As well as offering super slick haircuts – believe us, you’ll look cooler when you leave – Rockit Barber Shop also brings the best of the man cave to you, with loads of old-school memorabilia and sport on the big screen if you want to zone out while getting a flattop, quiff or cut-throat shave. Their website says ‘You change everything but your barber and your church’, and we reckon you’ll be converted after your first visit.
Clash City Hair
If you fancy a new look that’s a bit pompadour, a bit punk, or just plain rocking, the cool cats at Clash City Hair can give you a hairdo to make hipsters look like yesterday’s news. Ladies are welcome too at this little salon that’s big on style, located in the Capitol Arcade off Swanston Street.
Vince & Dom
Vince & Dom Hairdressing is a family business that has been running from its spot in Chinatown for 62 years. A haircut will set you back just $27 and if you feel like treating yourself, get a cut-throat shave for $30, which will have you heading to hair-free heaven via the hot towel (and razor) highway.
